Whitewater Kayak

This painting is an original acrylic by artist, Kirk N. Fliej  (This is my best interpretation of the signature).  As one who loves the challenge of a kayak, I was immediately drawn to this painting.  The composition is wonderful with the sun illuminating the clear water of the canyon.  The water is not green, but the reflective nature of water picks up the natural colors of the canyon walls. Of course, it's the dark green foliage, moss, and trees that are are reflected in various intensities. It is a very accurate interpretation of the artist to show a white shard of light refracted in the water. The constant movement of water refracts light (bends it) rather than reflects light.  In this painting, the canyon walls are so tall that sunlight would never fully illuminate all of the river at one time. All of this evokes a sense of movement and action. You only have to experience this once to remember it forever.
